Back Streets (They Didn’t See Us Cry) tells the story of James “Chali” Jones as he navigated the most traumatic event in his life—the breakup of his family. As a black man in America who came from the “real hood,” Chali has a perspective that comes from being psychologically and emotionally damaged early in life. The breakup of his family and the hurt, doubt, and confusion that followed challenged Chali and left a lasting mark. By sharing his experiences in this book, Chali hopes that readers who have had similar pasts will realize they are not alone in this journey we call life. His mission is to encourage those who have been hurt and disillusioned by their life circumstances. The author believes if he could change, then anyone can change to better themselves.
