In this first volume of the series, Exploring African History, Culture and Contributions, the author, Angel Brown-Harriott, compiled research from leading historians to share the story of African people who were forced to migrate to many countries, including the United States of America, the Caribbean and Brazil. This book begins to detail the origins, journey and some contributions that highlight the story of Africans and their influence throughout the world. Her goal is to make this a resource for all children to learn about African history, culture and contributions as a standard part of the public and private school curriculum. African people throughout the continent understood that all beings are inter-related and independent. It is expressed in the African proverb: "I am because you are and because you are, therefore I am."
